Rhythm is a Camper. Exploria's Short Wheel Base camper to be exact.

This great conversion is based on our super popular long wheel based Tempo conversion.

We offer a massive range of custom options so you can truly make your van your own home away from home.

With the same VW bed system, Reimo elevating roof and high end kitchen furniture layout and appliances you get all the same great features, just in a more compact package. Best suited to couples and those enjoying solo adventures, the Rhythm is a great little camper and a firm favourite in our camper line up.

The Rhythm has what is seen as a traditional camper layout; with the units running down the driver’s side of the van. This offers great functionality, space and usability. Its Reimo elevating roof lifts at the front offering great standing height, and also houses the full width Exploria roof bed.

The Rhythm might be built on a short wheelbase Transporter, but it certainly doesn’t come up short as a conversion and has only the best products installed. The market leading VW California seat/bed system, brilliant Reimo elevating roof, amazing quality SMEV kitchen appliances, efficient Indel B compressor refrigeration, expertly designed and finished Exploria custom made furniture units, best quality German manufactured Exploria swivel bases and high-end electrical components as standard.

Exploria has the expertise and experience to go that step further than most and build the very best camper for you. We can offer excellent media and sound systems, interior design finishes and external styling products to make your conversion individual to you.

Below gives a brief overview of what goes into a Rhythm camper. Please have a look at our other more detailed services pages to get an in-depth explanation of each specific element. Rhythm Camper Conversion Key Features

For Exploria, an elevating roof is an essential part of a full camper conversion.

We feel being able to stand up in the living space of the vehicle is vital to truly get the full use out of the space available. Nobody wants to be doubled over or sat down whilst cooking or getting changed. For this reason, we include an elevating roof as standard in all our camper conversions.

We choose to fit the remarkable Reimo super flat front elevating roof. This offers a sleek, low profile look and our standard pricing always includes colour coding to match the base vehicle. The quality of the products from Reimo, together with our expert installation, means the fit and finish on this major part of the build is second to none. On the SWB the reimo roof is custom shaped to the vehicle and does not have the front nose cones as seen on the LWB versions.

To complete the elevating roof we include our Exploria deluxe roof bed. Trimmed in alcantara type material, with built in mattress and enough capacity for two adults, this can literally and figuratively add a whole other level to the roof. Featuring sunken under-bed spotlights and the ability to fit a roof mounted monitor for in camper entertainment. This is an amazing elevating roof bed solution. On the Rhythm the SWB Exploria roof bed is just 30cm shorter than that of our LWB conversions.

Our years of experience have led Exploria to favour the VW California bed system.

Offering the ultimate in flexibility, the sliding floor rail system allows the bed to move backwards and forwards effortlessly. This enables rear passengers to be seated at any position along the rails. Giving practicality for multi-usage, from furthest forward for the most comfortable traveling position and largest possible boot space, to pushing it back for a massive living space. It also has two recline positions and is super easy to transform from a seat into a bed. An under seat storage drawer offers a fantastic amount of easy access storage.

To make the seat into a bed we supply a rear sleeper pack. This sleeper pack fits into the rails using T-nut fixings and can be easily moved forward or removed all together to increase the boot space if required. If left, it acts as a handy parcel shelf to help separate the load space behind the seats. We also offer a custom made and specifically spaced mattress topper to fit on the sleeper pack for that highest level of comfort if required.

On the SWB Rhythm, the bed is just 10cm shorter than that of the longer Tempo.

The Rhythms’s furniture is sleek and exceptionally cavernous. Every last bit of space is utilised, with lots of useful storage spaces, no space is lost or forgotten. Flowing aluminium corner profiles give that excellent appearance and superior strength.

Every piece of furniture is custom made specifically to your van to ensure a seamless fit and perfect finish. We pay particular attention to detail and offer a wide range of furniture board options, enabling you to create your perfect look.

The Rhythm, like all of our models, has been designed from experience and use. Some of the key points of the Rhythm’s furniture are:

  • Internal wardrobe ‘cubbyholes’ offer practical storage for underwear and small items
  • End of kitchen storage pockets offer storage for books, tables and essentials you need close at hand. The is an Exploria exclusive and in many other conversions this space is a wasted void.
  • The overhead kitchen unit offers great storage for cups and teabags etc. and offers a great mounting place for the kitchen lights
  • All the built in LED lights are a super near flush fit finish.
  • Double access doors offering easy access from inside and outside of the van
  • Double access doors in the rear wardrobe offer easy access from the inside and outside of the van.
  • Low level, removable doors offer easy access to leisure batteries and storage space.
  • Tambour door allows simple access to the cupboards, even when the seat is in the furthest back position.
  • The rear over-head unit offers a great storage space and can house those all-important rear speakers.

A critical part of any conversion and overlooked by many, but not by Exploria. This first key foundation of the build ensures that the camper will be quiet and comfortable to travel in. Helping to maintain the internal temperature. This helps with warmth in the winter and reduces the warming effect of the sun in the summer.

Full 2 stage soundproofing and insulation to the highest spec. Re-lined and smoothed internal bodywork allows for seamless lining to be applied, in a material of your choice. Be it high quality non stretch carpet, a fabric of your choice or a vinyl.

We also only use gravity feed adhesives, no watered down aerosols used, which can weaken when they get warm.

With options for custom insert panels to match upholstery or other design elements, we have the experience to create something you suit your needs be it functional, fashionable or a perfect blend of both.

For upholstery we can offer any standard VW fabric upholstery or our unlimited custom leather options. We can suit any taste or budget.

Examples of our upholstery options can be seen on our leather upholstery pages.

All our lights are high output LED’s with low draw. We offer a full range of lights and the choice is yours as to which lights you would like in your camper.

The choice is:

  • 6 LED roof bed lights offer direct light over the living area
  • 2 optional LED kitchen lights mounting in over kitchen storage
  • 2 optional LED Rear Storage unit lights.
  • 4 LED Spots into the underside of the elevating roof or more cost effective flexi neck roof bed/cab reading light as alternatives.
  • 2 optional LED tailgate lights offer easy loading and extremely useful if using tailgate awning
  • LED bulbs to courtesy lights offer increased light and decrease draw from vehicle battery
  • Options for Decorative LED mood lighting to top of wardrobe area and side loading door step
  • PIR sensor internal lighting to furniture is nice as an optional extra
  • Remote controller dimmer options for roof bed and/or elevating roof spotlights

For two wheel drive vehicles we utilise an under-body water tank with a huge 60 litre capacity. For 4 motion we can reconfigure the layout to install the water tank in place of the spare wheel and still keep a 50 litre capacity. With a self priming pump and the option for an external shower, this set up offers great performance and reliability.

A discreet filling point under the rear bumper, with a hose lock fitting offers quick and convenient filling. This can be located on the side of the vehicle and is preferred for easier access.

The Rhythm comes complete with a specifically designed top access gas locker to the rear of the side wardrobe. This locker is specifically designed by Exploria. Accepting a Camping Gaz 907 bottle, it gives good gas storage capacity. It also importantly offers a LEGAL gas locker which is airtight, flame proof and vented through the floor. All internal piping is in accordance with legislation, in copper pipe and with Truma pigtails and regulator.

A very popular optional extra, the diesel powered heating from a Webasto Airtop 2000 STC fits neatly under-body. Offering fantastic, economical and super reliable heating these brilliant units can be used while stationary, or as a secondary heater whilst travelling. With several controller options they can be controlled manually, by timer or even by an app on your phone.

Exploria believes a robust and high capacity leisure battery system is one of the most important parts
of a conversion.

On the Rhythm, we recommend a twin 130AH AMG battery set up. Charged via a DC to DC battery charger while driving and 240v Electric Hook Up when plugged into mains. This gives a reliable system which will last for the period of time you need it to.

With the leisure battery providing power to the fridge, LED lights, 12v sockets, USB sockets and heater if installed, having a good capacity is really important for free camping or camping on sites without an EHU pitch.

We also have 240v EHU sorted with a discreet inlet under the rear bumper. Other options are available if preferred. EHU charges leisure batteries and provide 240v power to 3 pin plug sockets when connected.

The number of sockets and their locations is personal preference and choice. We can of course suggest the best options based on our experience.

With options for discreet flush fit solar panels for the roof, we can tailor the electrics in your vehicle to your needs.

Importantly, all appliances are nicely located so that access can be obtained when the seatbed is upright or down, forwards or backwards in the van.

In the kitchen we use the SMEV 8000 series hob and 8000 series sink. These offer a functional size which can fit proper sized pots, pans and kettles. With a classy desirable look with smoked glass lids, these appliances offer a sleek finish and can also be used as workspace.

You can opt for an extra cupboard or the very popular SMEV mini oven and grill is an option.

For refrigeration we use the brilliant Indel B C49 12v compressor fridge. This offers unrivaled performance, efficiency and seamlessly fitted into the furniture.

We have the abilities to create a customised audio media package specific to your needs. Be this simply a set of speakers in the rear of the conversion, a straightforward sound quality improving front speaker upgrade, or a fully amplified system with upgraded head unit and roof monitor.

For some more specifics see our audio media pages.

One thing we are frequently asked is why choose a Short WHeel Base (SWB) over a Long Wheel Base (LWB) and vice versa.

A SWB is 40cm shorter than a LWB and for some customers this can make all the difference in the usability of the van. The main things we would advise you to consider are:

  • Who will be driving it & are they comfortable with driving/parking a LWB van?
  • Is this a daily drive or just a van for weekends & holidays?
  • How many people are going to be using the vehicle?
  • How much kit/equipment/clothing do you need to carry in the van?

Get in touch if you would like to discuss further as we are experienced Transporter owners and have used and driven both so can advice on what might suit you best.
